Hello, friends! My name is Jennifer and I am the elder sister.
I am married to my Latin lover and best friend, Fred, and mother to my incredibly entertaining baby boy, Julian. Carmella, our OCD Puggle, adds a little more nuttiness to our already zany household in Orange County, CA. I am a licensed insurance agent by day, and blogger /co-founder of “My Sister Said So” by night.
Born in 1977, this girl is a true 80’s child. I watched the Facts of Life, subscribed to Highlight’s magazine, screamed “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany from the top of my lungs into my hairbrush microphone on the regular, dressed up like Cyndi Lauper for Halloween, danced all of Janet Jackson’s moves (oh yes, I was Nasty!), and was desperately-seeking to be Madonna. I talked to and with my friends on my Swatch phone, while wearing my Swatch watches and sitting in my room listening to D-Mode with my lava lamps flowing in bright, hot pink. I had a stereo system with full size speakers, a VCR, a Texas Instruments computer and I remember when Nintendo was invented and CD’s were the next best thing. I truly believe in the Force and know the ways of the Dark Side, as much as I know that watching the volleyball scene from Top Gun is always the best way to start your day! And up until I was ten years old I was an only child, but that all changed in the fall of 1987…
And then there was ME! I’m Katelyn, the younger sister. And I’m young enough to be a part of the generation currently being dumped on by every other… that’s right, people! I’m a millennial. (cue the eye roll)
And yup! I don’t really remember not having the internet… I grew up chatting with friends and in chat rooms on AOL instant messenger. And I was raised during the golden age of the Disney animated musical, and when Duck Tales, TGIF, Legends of the Hidden Temple and Are You Afraid of the Dark? were all still on the air. In my early formative years I enjoyed the musical talents of Alanis Morisette, TLC, Hanson, The Spice Girls, BSB, N*SYNC and Britney Spears… woof. I was definitely the weird kid who made flower necklaces on the soccer field instead of participating in the game. So it comes as no surprise that the arts have always been my jam.
Currently I live in LA with this guy Kyle who makes funny voices for a living, a snow beast named Simon and a crotchety pet ewok named Chloe. I’m an actor, crafter, content creator, writer-in-training, animal rights advocate AND I own a virtual franchise with Arbonne International, an amaze-balls vegan health and wellness company. And yes, I’ve done many things to irritate my sister since that fateful fall of ’87…
It’s true, my sister said so!
So now you know we were raised 10 years apart in very different times and yet we manage to make it through our daily lives coming to similar conclusions by way of very different methods. As much as we are alike we are also very estranged in our thoughts and beliefs, which is the main reason why showing our individual ways of doing things will help break apart the gaps we share in age and bring us together in understanding. Katelyn and I want to share our lives and experiences with you. We believe in a healthy, happy and productive lifestyle and thrive in a state of constant change and competition. Simply put, we are regular, everyday women who want to invite you to join us on our adventures in health and wellness, arts and crafts, and fun with family. Please laugh, cry and comment with us – we love a great conversation! We may have the first word but we are always open to sharing in the last.
We are Jennifer and Katelyn (J and K affectionately): two sisters, a blog and generation gap.
